Overview
Each year Morrisons holds the Mastercraft competition to celebrate their commitment to in-store excellence. They test their colleagues’ specialist knowledge and practical skills in their relevant fields with a final 8 competing to become the people's champion.
In 2013 voting was opened to the public to help decide the champion. Morrisons needed a website to showcase everything Mastercraft that allowed the public to vote for their favourite in-store expert.
This was the first piece of responsive design undertaken by Morrisons.
Historically Morrisons reviewed all digital work as print outs of desktop screens, or JPGs optimised for their small laptop screens. A mobile first attitude was adopted when presenting designs to break this mould and to ensure that mobile wasn't just a bolted on addition to the project, but the core element.
In keeping with the mobile first approach, the desktop screens are simply wider versions of their mobile counterparts. This helped to hand hold the client through their first piece of responsive work whilst creating an efficient workflow from design through to build.
